Game On reviews “Fine” card from Phantom Darkness set

Welcome to “Game On!” the column where I review one card each week on how strong it is, what kind of deck would this card work in, and the pros and cons of the card. Today, I will review the trap card “Fine” from the Phantom Darkness set. This card’s effect allows you to discard two cards from your hand to the graveyard. To a duelist’s eyes, it is a lousy card and shouldn’t be used at all, but actually, there are a couple decks that this card is actually useful in.

One of them is the “Dark” deck. This deck type was greatly revamped when the Phantom Darkness set came out, releasing monster cards that could be only summoned by removing from play a certain amount of dark attribute monsters. “Fine” could be used to send two dark monsters to the graveyard, so you’ll be one step closer to special summoning a monster like “Dark Armed Dragon” or “Dark Horus”.

Another deck that “Fine” would be useful in is the “Dark World” deck, a most unusual deck indeed. A majority of the effects of monsters in a “Dark World” deck are activated when they are discarded from your hand. “Fine” will help you bring out “Silva, Warlord of Dark World” without having to pay a tribute!

So, in conclusion, although “Fine” is useless by itself, it can be used in a combo in a “Dark World” deck, and to help bring out “Dark Armed Dragon”. That’s all for this week, see you next time here at “Game On!”.
