Welcome to “Game On!” the column where I review one card each week on how strong it is, what kind of deck would this card work in, and the pros and cons of the card. Today I will review the card “Barrier Statue of the Abyss”. “Barrier Statue of the Abyss” is a level 4 dark attribute fiend-type monster with 1000 attack points and 1000 defense points.
This card has a rather special ability as it makes it so that the only monsters that can be special summoned are dark attribute monsters. Although it seems pretty weak, it is actually quite useful. If you bring this card out and equip it with the equip spell “Mist Body”, it will keep your opponent from special summoning any of his monsters that are not dark attribute monsters. This combo works great against a “Lightsworn” deck as it prevents your opponent from summoning “Judgment Dragon”.
The deck that “Barrier Statue of the Abyss” would work best in is a “Dark World” deck. This is will mean that, if your opponent isn’t using a dark attribute deck, the only monsters that can be special summoned are you “Dark World” monsters!
So, in conclusion, “Barrier Statue of the Abyss” may have weak stats, it is extremely recommended against an opponent using a “Lightsworn” deck. That’s all for this week, see you next time here at “Game On!”.
