Spanish Club Relay for Life

By Heather Nail

The SHS Spanish Club is doing working to help their main cause: Relay for Life. Relay for Life is held in June and the club has their own team. “It’s a lot of fun,” said Carrissa Burns, a team member.  Burns is one of the many people selling the footprints one may have seen being displayed outside of Sra. Duffy’s classroom. “The footprints are one dollar, you sign the print and we put them up,” Burns said.

If buying a footprint doesn’t seem to excite you, you can also purchase goodies from the Spanish Club Bake Sale that is coming up on April 12, 13, and 14. The bake sale will be during both first and second lunch.  Everything is fifty cents per bag and all money goes to Relay for Life.

The club also has luminary bags that can be given out for a donation. The luminary bags are placed around the track and have a lit candle in them when it gets dark. A luminary bag can be filled out in memory of a cancer patient who has passed away or in support of a survivor or a person living with cancer. “I’ve had people donate twenty dollars for a bag and I’ve had people donate two,” Club sponsor Sra. Duffy said. “Any size donation will do.” There are several ways to decorate a luminary bag, some use markers, some print pictures of their loved ones, but all are creative and meaningful.

At the next meeting, the club will vote for officers for next year. To run for a position you must currently be in Spanish Club and attend the next meeting.
