Atwood Hypes Warped Tour

By Becca Atwood

Warped Tour is the biggest musical event for alternative teenagers that like to meet the bands and meet other teenagers just like them from around the surrounding area. Every year, thousands of teenagers and hundreds of bands gather to bring the largest music festival for ten hours.

History of Vans Warped Tour. Warped tour was created by Kevin Lyman in 1994, who got the idea when he was working in skateboarding competitions . He got the name from Warp Magazine, a skating, snowboarding, surfing, and music magazine. In 1998, the tour became international, occurring in Australia, Japan, Canada, and the Unites States. In 1999, the tour started off in New Zealand and Australia at the beginning of the New Year and ended in Europe and the United States at the end of the summer. The tour isn’t just about music; it also has half pipes for skaters and bikers to ride. It also has a flea-market atmosphere, with tents pitched everywhere consisting of bands’ merchandise.

Overall Look at How it Works. There are about one hundred bands playing in a time space of ten hours. Many bands play at the same time on different stages. The most popular bands play on the main stages for 40 minutes. The tour begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends around 9:00 p.m. This tour is mostly for teenagers who are into metal-core, post-core, techno, pop-punk, alternative, and street-punk.
