Are you going to be having a crappy weekend on May 7, 8 and 9? Bored out of your mind? Change that! Witness a play that will send you home hurting from laughing and experience sleepless nights from the terror! Come see Sweeney Todd, the melodrama, put on by the Salem High School Drama Club.
Sweeney Todd, played by Senior Josh Medlock, is a demon barber with a very frightening evil laugh. Todd takes people off the street to give them a trim, and if they look wealthy he polishes them off in his “special chair.” He then sends them off to Mrs. Lovett, played by Angel Wiseman, and they split the money.
The play is full of newcomers to the theater, and everyone is doing a great job. “It’s a lot of fun,” said Freshman Katherine LaHue. This is LaHue’s second production with the Drama Club. “This play is a lot different than the last one I was in. There’s a lot more props, and costumes. I’m really excited.”
The stage will be divided into three different portions, with the center being highlighted with Todd’s barber shop, where a lot of the action takes place.
“I’m pretty excited,” said Medlock. “It was a lot of fun experimenting with the laugh and trying new things to become a villain.”
The cast includes seniors: Josh Medlock, Angel Wiseman, Emiko Willison and Frank Levering, Junior Sakyia Smith, Sophomores: Heather Nale, Natalie Boling, Ben Dowen, Lexus Hoskins, Chuck Hedrick and Freshmen: Katherine LaHue, Wade LaHue, Alex Cannello, Josh Worral, Kyle Medlock, Mackenzie Johnson, and Abbey Miller.
The play will be on May 7, 8, and 9. Posters have been hung up around Salem High School. The play will take place at the Salem Middle School auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door.
